# Plan your Osa trip

A practical guide to choosing your base, shaping a first itinerary and getting to Cabo Matapalo.

## Plan your Osa trip

A practical guide to choosing your base, shaping a first itinerary and getting to Cabo Matapalo.

Primary CTA: Explore accommodations

Secondary CTA: Plan with Osa Concierge

## Introduction

> Start with the base, then let the days breathe.

The Osa Peninsula rewards a considered pace. Choose the home and access that fit your group, leave room for conditions and interests to shape the days, and use Osa Concierge to connect accommodation, experiences, wellness and transport.

## Choose the part of Osa that fits the trip.

Cabo Matapalo and Backwash Bay: Choose this area when surf access, ocean views and a private-home setting are central to the stay. Casa Familia, Casa Marmaris and Casa La Luz are the clearest places to start.

Sombrero Beach area: Casa Sirena and Rancho Vida suit guests looking for more space, oceanfront settings and room for family time, yoga or a slower beach day.

Beachfront for two: Waves Apartment is the most compact option in the collection: beachfront, one bedroom, one bath and up to two guests.

## Use verified details to choose well.

Casa Familia: Backwash Bay · up to 8 guests · 3 bedrooms · 3 baths. A pool, BBQ, rooftop terrace and WiFi support a family or friends stay, with a surf-facing terrace and mini beach access at low tide.

Casa Marmaris: Backwash Bay · up to 8 guests · 4 bedrooms · 4 baths. The home has a pool, BBQ, ocean-view living and kitchen areas, WiFi and a master bedroom with a surf view.

Casa Sirena: Sombrero Beach · up to 10+ guests · 5 bedrooms · 4.5 baths. A pool, ping pong, BBQ, oceanfront yoga platform and WiFi make it a strong fit for a larger group that wants space for rest and movement.

## Choose a season around your priorities.

The current Osa Concierge experience information marks whale and dolphin watching as seasonal in July–October and December–April. Treat those windows as planning cues, not guarantees, and confirm current conditions when you inquire.

## Five days / four nights is a useful starting shape.

That is the duration used by the current Osa Concierge packages. It gives a first visit room for arrival, a nature day, ocean or wellness time and a considered departure without turning the guide into a fixed promise.

Days 1–2 · Arrive and settle: Arrive, get comfortable in the home and keep the first full day flexible. Choose surf, beach time or a slower start around the conditions and your group's energy.

Day 3 · Make room for Corcovado: The existing Corcovado experience is a full day of 8–10 hours, with a certified naturalist, park fees, round-trip boat transport, lunch, snacks, binoculars and water.

Day 4 · Ocean, wellness or Caño: Use the day for surf and recovery, yoga and massage, or a separate ocean experience such as Isla del Caño. The Surf & Relax package links these rhythms naturally.

Day 5 · Depart or extend: Keep the final day practical. Ask about the current transport plan, allow room for the final leg and extend the stay if the group needs a slower finish.

## Choose 4x4, private driver or a shorter first leg.

The final choice depends on how much independence and driving your group wants. Current routes and schedules should be confirmed when planning.

Rent a 4x4: Best when you want to explore on your own terms and are comfortable taking responsibility for the drive. Osa Concierge lists delivered, insured 4x4 rental with GPS and local tips.

Arrange a private driver: Best when you would rather avoid navigation and connect airport arrivals with activities through a bilingual local driver.

Use taxi or private charter: Taxis suit local or airport transfers. The current private-charter information describes San José to Osa in about 45 minutes; confirm the current route, schedule and final connection to Cabo Matapalo.

## Osa Peninsula or Manuel Antonio?

There is no universal winner. Compare the trip you actually want to take, the access you are comfortable arranging and the accommodation style that fits your group.

Choose Osa when…: You want the private homes, Cabo Matapalo surf, Corcovado planning and slower nature-led rhythm described in this guide.

Keep comparing when…: Your decision depends on a different destination's access, lodging, park logistics or activity mix. Osa Concierge plans Osa stays; ask for a tailored comparison before committing.

## Build around the way you want to travel.
